Print problems on XP with Epson printers having parallel interface

Sat, 06/12/2008 - 04:09 — stefano

If you own an old Epson printer with parallel interface, you might have problems when printing on Windows XP. The Epson driver for 2000/XP (or the native Windows driver) is regularly installed, but when you start printing nothing happens: the print jobs is regularly processed, but the printout doesn't complete. In this case you need an USB-to-parallel cable, that you can connect to the USB port of your computer, and it provides a parallel connection. Once plugged in, it configures a new port called USB001, on which you can set the printer. This allows only printing with the native XP driver, but not with the Epson driver, which you may need to access the advanced printing features (i.e. select a custom paper format). In order to print with the Epson driver, you may download and install a small programm called Dosprn, and enable the option "Send directly to printer" in the printer's control panel.
